Unusually heavy rainfall (260mm) in
the first 5 weeks after planting soaked the soil.
Plants started to turn reddish before the first
spray. |

Yield compared with average yield
for the area. Fibre micron measured. |
| Results/Uitslae |
The following was established with
Lonrho:
Average yield for area (with the same fertilizing
programme): 2.8 t/ha
Yield estimate for treated crop done on 13/05/99:
4.8 t/ha
Fibre micron: 4.2 -4.8 compared with 3.9 average
for the area. |

Special comments/
Spesiale opmerkings |
Mr Ueckermann also observed:
* very little flower shedding
* visible recovery from the stress soon after the
first spray
* improved growth right through the growth cycle;
crops in the area were dying while the treated
crop kept growing and still produced flowers |
